I must say that they really knocked it out of the park with this product line. Silk AlmondMilk Yogurt is a perfectly thick, wonderfully creamy dairy-free yogurt with the most delicious flavors.
Silk AlmondMilk Yogurt also has a short and sweet ingredient list. Plus, each flavor boasts a natural dose of protein (5 to 6 grams) and plant-based fats (11 to 13 grams) from the almond base. They don’t yet have an unsweetened variety, which I would love to see. But the Plain has just 6 grams of sugar, while maintaining an enjoyable taste.
The flavored varieties clock in at 15 to 17 grams of sugar per single-serve container, making them a bit more of a treat in our household (much like their soy-based yogurts). But the wholesome ingredients and live and active cultures do bump them up a notch from your typical dessert. And they really do satisfy as a sweet reward.
Tasting Notes for Silk AlmondMilk Yogurt
As mentioned, each flavor is perfectly thick with a near seamless creamy finish. The yogurt spoons with ease, and isn’t runny in the slightest. And since it is free of gums and carrageenan there aren’t any gelatinous oddities either. In my opinion, this is dairy-free yogurt how it should be.
Peach
This was the first flavor that I sample, and I wasn’t disappointed. Each spoonful was sweet, peachy yogurt bliss. It had a pleasant light tang, but wasn’t as tangy as some traditional yogurts can be. The natural peach was notable in the overall flavor, the pretty hue, and the little bits of peach throughout.
Ingredients – almondmilk (filtered water, almonds), cane sugar, peaches, contains 2% or less of: pectin, calcium citrate, natural flavor, starch, citric acid, live and active cultures, fruit and vegetable juice (color), annatto (color), vitamin D2.
Strawberry
Just like the peach, this variety had a dessert-like flavor with a light yogurt tang finish. And the real strawberries were pervasive in the look and taste.
Ingredients – almondmilk (filtered water, almonds), cane sugar, strawberries, contains 2% or less of: strawberry juice concentrate, pectin, natural flavors, starch, citric acid, calcium citrate, vegetable juice (color), live and active cultures, vitamin D2.
Plain
This will probably be my go-to flavor since it is so much lower in sugar than the others, and is closer to neutral in flavor. It still has a light sweetness that makes it pleasant enough for breakfast, but it also has a little more versatility. I used it to make this Dairy-Free Yogurt Cheese Recipe, which is AMAZING, and pictured below. It has a lightly sweet finish, but can still be paired with savories. And trust me, not all dairy-free yogurts work as yogurt cheese. But this one definitely does.
Ingredients – almondmilk (filtered water, almonds), cane sugar, contains 2% or less of: calcium citrate, pectin, live and active cultures, vitamin D2.
Vanilla
I had an oops moment with this flavor. I told Tony he could eat it, and forgot to taste test a bit myself! But based on the sweetener level, Tony’s proclamation of “it was good,” and the fact that it contains real vanilla beans, I’m going to bet that this variety is also a winner.
Ingredients – almondmilk (filtered water, almonds), cane sugar, contains 2% or less of: pectin, calcium citrate, citric acid, natural flavor, live and active cultures, vanilla beans, vitamin D2.
Dark Chocolate Coconut
Truth be told, I’m not usually a fan of chocolate yogurt. Something about cocoa with tang is very off-putting to my taste buds. But Silk won me over. This creamy chocolate yogurt ventures into dessert territory with deep flavor, the perfect sweetness, and barely a hint of tang. The coconut and almond underpinnings pair perfectly and truly round out the experience. I loved it by the spoonful, and also layered “Almond Joy style” with sliced almonds, unsweetened coconut shreds, and dairy-free mini chocolate chips.
Ingredients – almondmilk (filtered water, almonds), cane sugar, contains 2% or less of: cocoa (processed with alkali), pectin, calcium citrate, natural flavor (contains coconut), citric acid, live and active cultures, vitamin D2.

What Others Are Saying ..
![Alternative Alternative](https://coupons.hunt4freebies.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Cup-Silk-Dairy-free-Yogurt-Alternative.png)
My favorite dairy free yogurt alternative (hereafter I will just say “yogurt) brand is currently Silk. Why? Because it gives me the closest experience to what I remember eating the “real thing” (more on that in a moment) was like. It is both tangy and sweet.
Like many Americans, I first ate yogurt after that entertaining series of commercials Dannon put out in the late 1970s depicting centenarians in then-Soviet Georgia eating yogurt. I enjoyed the process of stirring the yogurt, incorporating the sweet fruit on the bottom into the tangy-to-the-point-of-being-sour yogurt on the top.
For the experience of stirring the fruit into the yogurt, I would say that Stonyfield O’Soy Yogurt takes the prize. The yogurt on the top is blandly white, the fruit is red or purple, and mixing them together is fun. However, Stonyfield is a little too much on the sweet side, to the point where, while I’m eating it, I can help but think: “is this really good for me?”
Silk has the flavor aspect copied well. The fruit provides some sweetness, but overall, there is plenty of tanginess. It is easy to believe that I am getting my cultures, which will make my intestinal flora happy.
Silk Blueberry Yogurt Alternative
However, when it comes to the fruit and mixing it into the yogurt, Silk has it all wrong. First of all, their yogurts are the color of whatever the fruit flavor is. Second, there isn’t that much fruit to speak of. It’s as if, in the processing of the product, they pureed the fruit and mixed it into the yogurt, thus denying the consumer the fun of doing it for themselves. There must be a killjoy somewhere on the Silk staff. I can just imagine him, knitting his brow and saying, “people are having too much fun stirring their fruit into their yogurt! Don’t they know that this stuff is good for you, and that health is very serious?!”
My imagination aside, I do like Silk, I also like the Stonyfield. If someone comes along with a product that combines the fun of the stirring (and chewing of actual pieces of fruit) along with the yogurt taste profile, I may jump ship and make that my favorite. If anyone knows of a dairy free yogurt alternative that combines those two elements, please let me know!
